The Open
The Open Championship is one of the four men's major golf tournaments. It was first played in 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. It first came to Royal Portrush in 1951 and returned in 2019, when it was won by Irishman Shane Lowry. It returned to Royal Portrush six years later in 2025. There have been three Northern Irish winners; Fred Daly in 1947, Darren Clarke in 2011 and Rory McIlroy in 2014.
